Today was the day we, and every primary school in the country, had been waiting for to mark the 100th anniversary of the 1916 rising. We were very excited to welcome so many parents and relatives to the school for our ceremony which involved Mina’s Grandad, Michael, proudly reading the proclamation aloud followed by the raising of the tri-colour. This was gifted to us by the Defence Forces back in November and after it was raised all assembled stood quietly for Amhrán na bhFiann. The children then treated all our guests to a fantastic exhibition of Irish dancing expertly led by the talented Ms Hunt, after which the guests went to view our art exhibition and read our “Proclamation for a New Generation” which the children had worked on together. It was a memorable occasion and very fitting for our first cohort of Junior Infants to mark such a momentous occasion. Hopefully, in 100 years’ time the 200th anniversary will be such a success. Well done to all the children and their teachers Ms Hunt, Ms Brennan and Mrs Pappas. You can see more pictures at the Gallery section of our website.
