Following recent developments and considering current situation we are postponing this years’ Table Quiz.
We will wait for things to calm down before we confirm another date as we do not want to have to cancel it twice. Raffle will take place at the event so please hold on to the tickets. We ask you do not bin/loose them as it’s a significant cost to get them printed. The Table Quiz Committee This year was our biggest World Book Day yet led by our PTP! With the help of their families, our children made, recycled and reused their costumes and looked absolutely amazing! We had 15 parents / grandparents volunteer to read to our children. We were especially fortunate to have parents read stories that represented the various languages and cultures of Greystones Community National School. We had readings in English, Gaeilge, French, Russian, German and Dutch. We also had one of our amazing 3rd Class children volunteer to read in Hungarian! The children really enjoyed the stories and the variety of languages. We are so lucky and thankful to have such wonderful parents, guardians and grandparents who helped make this our best World Book Day Celebration yet!
Our two 1st Classes were invited to Halfway up the Stairs in Greystones to meet Gerry Daly, the illustrator of Where Are You Puffling? Gerry read the €1.50 version of Where Are You Puffling? to the two classes and walked taught them how to draw a puffling. He was also kind enough to give each class a signed illustration of a puffing which are now proudly on display in the two 1st class rooms. 3rd Class recently had a visit from our local fire services to talk to the children about fire safety in the home. The visit was well received by the children and they enjoyed their homework -checking their houses, too : ).
Today we were lucky and delighted to have a visit from Jennifer Dunne (Cuala) and the Brendan Martin Cup. Jennifer was part of the Dublin Senior Ladies team who won the cup for the 3rd year in a row last September. She spoke to the children about her training, team set up, selection and answered some of the many questions. At only 20 years of age she's a lot more to give to Dublin yet, hopefully another All-Ireland win this year. Great inspiration for our children. Some of our 3rd class children represented our school at a football blitz in Shoreline on Thursday 16th. A great time was had by all! Families were treated to fantastic performances from each of our 8 classes on Wednesday, December 18th. The wonderful singing, poetry, jokes, dancing and Lámh signing more than made up for the miserable weather outside. 2nd and 3rd Classes took their performances on the road and performed for the residents and staff of Greystones Nursing Home on Thursday, December 19th. We couldn't have been prouder of our children. A huge thank you to our amazing staff who had the hall in the rugby club looking the best it has ever looked! A big thank you also to our PTP who provided festive treats at the school. A whopping €400 was raised for this fabulous cause, a huge thanks to all our school community for their continued support for our various fundraising efforts. A huge thank you to our wonderful school community who so kindly donated to the Shoebox Appeal 2019. Brian from PMVT visited the school on Friday, December 6th to talk to the children in 1st - 3rd Classes about homelessness and how we can all help. He was overwhelmed by the generosity and empathy evident in our school. We were delighted to receive a build update today and some pics to go with it. We can see lots of ground work being done at the site and look forward to the foundations going in soon. |
