Suggested work & activities for Senior infants during school closure for week beginning 8th of June.
- Complete some new ‘Look back on Senior Infants’ activities from the GCNS Takeaway Grid, maybe try two or three different independent activities each day.
- Try some interactive activities on the class Padlet for senior infants.
- Keep on reading- try reading every day for 10/15 minutes alone or with a sibling or adult, even better if you can read a book about a frog. Log on to READING EGGS.

Week 1 (13/03/20 - 20/03/20) Communications for families of senior infants
Dear parents / guardians,
Please find below an outline of suggested work and activities for children in Senior Infants. You will also find attached a ‘Closure Takeaway Grid’ with more suggestions that will allow some autonomy for the children with regard to the work and activities they do.
As always, reading aloud with your child, creative play, dramatic / role play, fine motor work, handwriting, oral language development and outdoor play (in-line with HSE advice) cannot be under-estimated. Please do not feel obligated to complete all of the suggested work and activities, it is intended to help rather than to add pressure on families at this stressful time. We are very aware of the fact that every family will have different access to technology, printers etc. and are also hindered by their individual work commitments.
Please feel free to contact me via Dojo or email to clarify any queries or questions in relation to the work provided.
If you or your child have any suggestions for work or activities that could be shared with our school community, please feel free to send them on – all suggestions welcome! The situation is evolving nationally and we will review our provisions regularly.

Suggested work & activities for Senior infants for week 2 of school closure:
- Revise Sight words, choose 5 sight words a day and play go fish, write the sight words in cursive writing, write the sight words in rainbow writing, trace the sight words on your hand, clap out the letters in each word, make the word with playdough, put the sight words into sentences orally & then write the sentence. (Use speech marks for fancy sentences).
- Continue to practice reading, why not record yourself reading (try to change your voice when you see speech marks and don’t forget what to do when you see bold words). www.folensonline.ie have lots of free reading resources with a variety of e-book readers and sight vocabulary interactive games at senior infant level.
